OT: Blew away shortcut to desktop, How to replace it?? Windows 2000 Professional

There's probably a better group for this, but I figure programmers
will know the answer.

I accidentally blew away the shortcut to the desktop which minimizes
all open windows and shows the desktop in W2000.

Then, of course, later I emptied the recycle bin without realizing
that the shorcut was in there.

Would someone please tell me how to recreate the shortcut.  I have no
idea what program it was calling.

Thanks.

I don't use Win2K, but I imagine it will be similar to WinXP (at least in
this respect). Go to My Computer (or double click the main drive) and do a
search for "Show Desktop" (including the quotes). When you find it (probably
more than one of them) drag its icon out of the "found files" window and
drop it onto the left side of the task bar (before you release the the left
mouse button to perform the drop, play about with the left Shift and Ctrl
keys until you get a little "+" sign by the icon you are about to drop, to
ensure that you are dropping a copy of it rather than moving it or creating
a shortcut).

If you can't find the file try this:

Open Notepad and paste in the following script:

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the file onto your desktop as Show Desktop.scf

You can then move or copy it to any directory you want.

To put it back into the Quick Launch, just copy and paste the
following line into an Explorer address bar...

%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Then create the shortcut there, or paste the shortcut there.

Thanks a lot.

It's amazing how much I use that thing.  I never realized how much I
used it until it was gone.

Old school: Windows key+M (Shift+Windows key+M to reverse)

New hotness: Windows key+D (toggle)
