Bad characters in Recent File list

Hello,

This morning, when I tried to open a recently used VB project I noticed the
path to the project file had been garbled.
This had happened to several recently used projects.

When I looked in the registry I found that the strings contained several
non-printing characters, like hex A0, 03, 01, scattered through the
beginning of the strings.

Has anyone seen this, and if so, does anyone know how this could happen?

I have the latest Norton virus protection/Internate security as well as both
a hardware and a software firewall and several programs against worms and
spyware.

I am running VB6 SP5 on Win 2000 Pro, SP 4. At least once I reinstalled VB
because it was veeery slow to open.

Any comments appreciated.

Yes, this happened to me a couple or three months ago. No, I have
no idea what caused it. The way I solved it was to clear out the
Recent list in the registry and start over. Everything seems to be
okay now. This only happened once to me in all the time I've used
VB.

I use Norton AntiVirus 2005, SpamSubtract for SPAM, SpySweeper for
spyware and I have a hardware (only) firewall (it came with my
Linksys router).

Thank you Rick,

At least I am not the only one.

I haven't gotten that far yet, but I am going to.

Same here, I just doubleclicked the project file and VB opened right up.

I also checked some other apps, like Access, Excel and Word and the problem
seems to be limited to VB.

Same here too, and I have been using VB for about 9 years now.

Go to my web site http://home.surewest.net/galen/download/download.html  and
get Rfiles22.zip

This little program cleans up, and resorts if desired, your VB6 recent files
list.

Thank you Galen,

However, I have already cleared the list.
Besides, so many of the items in the list were mangled anyway, so there was
not much to be saved by cleaning it up.
