I have tables in Word 2000 or 2003 files that will not print in word 97
- is this a compitablity issue - is there a fix or work aroound

Most likely, but you really should be asking this in a Word newsgroup.
They're the people who are going to know for sure.

In any case, open Word's Option dialog and box and look at
anything/everything on the Compatibility tab. Perhaps all you need to do is
select "Microsoft Word 97" from the "Recommended options for:" dropdown box.
I've no idea what that might actually do to your table though.  At the very
least, I'd expect it be re-formatted somewhat.
