"_files" folders and related folders

Hello

An off-topic question...

The "_files" are folders created by web browsers when saving web
documents. If the main file (.htm or etc) is deleted, these folders are
also deleted, right?

Are there any other kind of folder names which react similar to these
"_files"?

I wouldn't think so. Have you actually seen it happen?

Under Win2K SP4 I can go to explorer's Tools / Folder Options / View and in
the 'advanced settings' there are settings to control those folders.  I'm
assuming it's the same under Windows Playskool (aka XP).

Not a fan of WinXP, huh, Bob? I wasn't either at first.  I finally installed
WinXP back in April on my home computer. I had used it marginally at client
locations before then, but never cared for it much. I "bit the bullet"
because it just became necessary to test apps I wrote under it.  But, after
having it installed at home for a few months now, I like it OK (and even use
it as my OS of choice). Granted, I've customized various things quite a bit
to "feel" closer to Win2000. At least MS provided that capability.

The moment I read that I remembered seeing something like that a long time
ago...and promptly forgetting about it. Probably uses alternate streams to
link a file to its supporting folder.

Streams are cool.

Ok I understand the '_files' folders' behavior. Are there any other
kind of folders which behave the same way?

Well, since the Folder Options dialog refers to "Managing  pairs of Web
pages and folder" I guess there MIGHT be others. I recommend you ask this in
a group dedicated to the Windows OS itself. Since I don't see a filesystem
group I'm going to suggest microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

If you save a web page using IE there is a method available whereby the images
are saved into a related folder that gets deleted if you delete the web page
with which it's associated.
