Hello

I use vb6 and msdn jan 2001
After installing MSDN oct 2001, I get an error.
When I close vb6, the error is: there is an error (which is poste in
dutch). The rough translation of the error:

In Visual Basic an error occurred and must be closed.
Apologize for the inconvenience.

Any idea how to solve this.?? Thanks

This is usually caused by one of the Addins. Disable them one by one until
you find the one that is causing the crash.

No, he is not referring to a component or reference. There is an Add-Ins
menu with a Add-In Manager selection where you can disable  add-ins.

Hi Ralph
I already did and then I get the old error when closing VB.
Any other Idea?

I was stalling for time. lol

I vaguely remember this problem from back in the day when I was regularly
dealing with new installs or reconfigurations (toolbars, add-ons, designers,
etc.) and thought I might find something more germane in my notes. Alas,
nothing.

It is commonly caused by a 'tool' or setting that is generating a MsgBox or
Dialog too late in the shutdown process. For whatever reason, VB, or rather
Visual Studio acknowledges that something is amiss, promptly ignores it, and
quits. It isn't necessarily anything truly fatal - usually something can't
delete a temp file, perhaps an ill-timed attempt to update a .scc file, or
something is just telling you it is updating a temp file, ie, it could be a
real error or just informational. The Registry is particularly protected. VB
loads its own copy of pieces at startup and is very careful of what it
allows to be written back, ie, a tool may simply be trying to update its
settings.

You might use WinDbg or any of the SysInternals utilities to track down the
specific cause - but frankly my advice is to simply backup everything, seal
up VSS, and reinstall VB, MSDN, and VSS.

You will likely find that once you cleaned out the temp and project folder,
restart with a basic VB configuration, the problem is gone, and you can just
put everything back.

not much help, sorry.

Thank you for your large reply and profound explanation. Very
interesting and it strengthens what I already hoped: it could be
something harmless. But reinstalling everything doesn't help. That's
for sure.

Some have issues with SP6, search the newsgroups. Also, I meant VB6
development environment SP, not just the runtime.
