If this message gets through, then I apologize for sending a test message
here, My desktop crashed (they replaced the motherboard, but problems still
persist) and I am using my laptop, but for some reason I am having trouble
sending email from it... so I thought I would see if I could send anything
out of the laptop... I decide to try a newsgroup.

For those wondering, I see that my message made it out, so I'm guessing
something is screwed up with just my email settings. Time to call Verizon
(my ISP).

Thanks for understanding.

Not sure I understand the references there Saga, but everything has been
resolved. Once I was able to send a message out to the newsgroup, but not a
message via email, I knew I was dealing with a setting issue. I initially
used a server address I (thought I) remembered from past, but either they
changed the address or I mis-remembered. Interestingly, the incoming server
address I guessed at, which is NOT their current server address, still
worked! (I thought was that strange.) Unfortunately, the outgoing server
address I chose was not correct. Anyway, as I said, all has been resolved
now.

I do not understand.
Why don't you test sending message back to yourself?
Why must be this forum?

I did try to send test messages to myself... and couldn't. I wanted to see
if I could send anything out of this computer before calling Verizon's tech
support. The success of being able to send the message to this newsgroup
confirmed it was a setting issue of some kind rather than a possible
hardware issue.

IIf executes both sides so rick and verizon get slammed regardless.

You are right... that is what lawyers are for and that is why there are way
too many of them. Both sides gets slammed and both sides wastes money
defending themselves

And rightly so!  He should know better than to post a test message
to a technical group!

I was in a hurry<g> (and I don't have the test newsgroup set up on this
laptop, which I am now forced into using).

For those interested in some of the details, Dell replaced my motherboard
but the computer still would work correctly. So now they will come back
sometime next week (hopefully early in the week) to replace that
motherboard, both of the hard disks making up my RAID array and both of my
CD/DVD reader/writers. They are pretty sure the problems (note the 's') that
are now occurring are because of one (or more) of those components, so they
are doing basically what I would have done if I were doing the fix...
replace everything that could be causing the problem and see what happens.
All I can say is, "Thank goodness for warranties!"<g>
