Delphi For VB Developers (again)

You may recall there was recently a discussion in this group about the 'easy
migration path' which Borland has provided for Delphi programmers to enable
them to port Win32 code to .NET. Some people here suggested that some VB
developers should think of switching development to Delphi rather than
convert existing code to VB .NET. I promised that when I did the interview
with David I would ask him to comment on this. Well, I did. So if yoiu're
interested, you'll find the video on www.bitwisemag.com

All I need now is to find a Microsoft person to put the alternative case. If
any MS people want to offer to do this, you know where you can find me ...
;-)

I forgot to say that David I is David Intersimone, VP of Developer Relations
and pretty much the public face of Borland.

Both downloads stopped after 127KB and 126KB respectively. No errors,
the downloads just completed as normal, but nothing like the full
length.

This happened to me with the first file (the interview). I tried the
download again and this time the file was downloaded fine.

BTW: Thank you!!!!!!!!!! for providing a means to download
the video files and be able to watch them later. It seems nowadays
that many content providers expect (demand) that you have
broadband so you can see their video streams, not giving the
viewer a choice to download and watch later.

Sorry if you had any problems with the video downloads. I see from my site's
control panel that an awful lot of people have been watching those videos
over the past couple of days (far more than I'd anticipated) so I'm guessing
that maybe the downloads choked due to the sheer numbers of viewers....

Glad you managed to download them in the end!

Hi Huw,

Great clip!

It pretty much shows the approach and attitude I've picked up throughout the
community and in the product.

Later,
Dan

Has there been any serious (or useful?) comment from MS on all the problems
and complaints of the VB community? I would certainly like the opportunity
to interview some reasonably senior person from Microsoft. Anyone offering
;-) ?

Aren't "reasonably sane" and "reasonably senior" mutually exclusive?  <g>

There have been serious comments, but none useful.  Well, I suppose it's
useful when they confirm that I should find a different direction.

Why don't you start with Ballmer and see where that takes you (seriously)?
He's one of the few execs that actually reads his email.  You can easily get
interviews with some of their marketeers and evalgelists, but I don't think
that's what you're looking for.

So Mr Gates, you think, may be too busy....?

Hehe, nope.  Not too busy, Gates just lives in a different world.  To my
knowledge little from the outside world gets through his filters.

Ballmer runs Microsoft.  I've had response before when I've contacted
Ballmer (though from a Rudder as a proxy).

Good luck, and tell him Dan sez hey<g>

See how that goes.  If no luck, I can get you some other names (who also
should never have had cause to learn my name).  I'll send you another (less
filtered) email address.

Dan

Okeydokey. This I'll get to work on this. Maybe you can help me construct a

Like Dan said, he does read his mail.  <steveb@>

I don't think he's paying attention ever since he handed the keys over to ballmer.
Head *way* in the clouds, while the company slowly swirls down the drain.

To clarify, the video files are wmv format to be played in windows media
player. They aren't activex.

I plan to have a fair mix of written and multimedia content in bitwise
(video, audio, screencasts etc.) as I don't want it to comprise just 'pages
of text and pictures' which might equally well be printed on the pages of a
magazine and would therefore take no advantage of the special features of
web publishing. There will, of course, be plenty of text and pictures for
those people who don't want multimedia.

I like to skim articles so watching videos is a pain.
