Vista Premium Home Edition and VB 6 ProfessionalI tried to load the VB 6 Professional Programming CD into one of the
new HP computers which has Vista Home Premium. A window appeared which said that this was imcompatible with Vista. Thereupon I returned the computer to Best Buy. Apparently Vista does not work with VB 6 (programming) system. Any comments? Was anyone else successful with this? AlexM I installed mine and it worked.
I seem to recall getting the same prompt (although I think it was talking about C++). I ignored it and went on with the install anyway, plus the SP6 install. You have to run both as an Admin. You gotta kinda of take all those Vista prompts with a grain of salt. Even running VB6.exe with Admin privlidges still gives me a prompt every time I start it that it does have have a recognized publisher. LMAO! Vista warning me about one of MS's own programs. I guess in a weird cosmic sort of way, it makes sense. <eg> Show quoteHide quote "Alexm" <amcwill***@msn.com> wrote in message news:1172948691.380753.247440@n33g2000cwc.googlegroups.com... |I tried to load the VB 6 Professional Programming CD into one of the | new HP computers which has Vista Home Premium. msjava.dll and put it in the \windows folder. The cd will think this is the java runtime and skip the java install. Then try the install and ignore any error Vista may toss when starting the install. Or, at least, Microsoft could explain what the compatibility issues are all about - even though (it is my understanding) they no longer support VB 6. I guess newer things like TV, etc., are more important. Perhaps I will go the Circuit City and try again using a Slimline HP/Vista. Thanks all for your responses. Alex Actually Msft DOES support VB6...see
