MS: $4,000 for Daylight Saving Fix
By Nate Mook, BetaNews
February 28, 2007, 2:06 PM
Customers using Microsoft products that have entered their "Extended"
support phase will need to fork over $4,000 for a patch that makes the
software compatible with the new March 11 date for Daylight Saving Time
(DST), according to Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley.

Among the products affected that have left "Mainstream" support are Windows
2000, Exchange Server 2000 and Outlook 2000. Foley learned of the cost in a
PowerPoint presentation distributed to analysts, which explains that due to
the number of customers affected by the DST change, Microsoft will not be
charging the standard, pricey fee to join its Extended Support Hotfix
program. Instead, customers can simply purchase the DST hotfixes they need
for a flat $4,000 USD fee.

Because it's an opportunity for MS bashing, and I added the obligatory "OT".

Now, bite me!  ;-)  (had to do it Karl, sorry!)

I'm sure I've seen "prior art" from Bob, but without some idea
what date you're basing your claim on, it's hard to know if it
should qualify.

Google groups documents my own from >13.5 years ago, BTW.
So if you were expecting any paypal quarters from me,
you know what you can do.

I'm assuming that the phrase you were thinking of involved the word "shove"
and putting that virtual quarter in an uncomfortable place.  But if it's a
virtual quarter, does that make it virtually uncomfortable?  (As opposed to
virtually painless.)

Hahaha...I considered it as well, just for the silliness of it, but my
PayPal account is empty, and I think the credit cards charge you extra for
small purchases (plus either PayPal or the credit card would've charged me
for currency conversion as well).

We actually figured out the Win98 fix for that
over on the vbscript group. It involves a minor
registry edit. I'm happy to sell the complete
solution for a mere $3,999.99 (plus shipping
